is not only the head designer at California Design and Build, he is the
head photographer too. “We just made a light that looks very much
like a piece of photographic equipment.” he said to the entire
CDB team. “If it doesn’t perform as well as photographic
equipment, we will be criticized. It’s not meant to be
decorative, it’s highly functional. We need to prove that.”

MST: “How do you prove the functionality of a light? You have to
photograph something, or someone, lit by that light. The lampshade
itself will not be visible, because without photoshop, or a composite
of some kind, you could never expose for both the light source and the
subject at the same time, but we do need to photograph a subject using
the light, with no photoshop at all.”

But what to photograph?
MST: “I have an extremely hot girl, and our head
offices are in the graffiti epicenter of Los Angeles, downtown, in the
Arts District, next to the School of Architecture. Let’s go
outside. We’ll photograph her with the lamp. Darling! Please
go and put some nice clothes on. I’m photographing you tonight.
Maybe you should put some lipstick on too.”

said MST. “Wear something sexy underneath, and wear my sunglasses
too. It will be like your waiting behind the scenes, on set, in between
shots. The glasses will look good in the light too.” ”Is
this sexy enough to wear underneath?” she asked, showing him
her first choice. “No, even sexier, darling. I”m trying to
sell my lights.”
